The Geological Significance

Old Volcanic Activities Nglanggran Formation

       Volcanic activity that took place around 20 million years ago (late Early Miocene) produced a series of volcanic rocks such as volcanic breccia, agglomerate and lava. The rocks were then fractured and faulted, and formed a dome morphology. This geological site is the location of the Nglanggran Formation type. In the high hill area, a small reservoir was built to irrigate agro-industrial plants such as non-cholesterol durian, longan, mangosteen and so on. Pitu Village at this geological site has its own uniqueness, because from the past until now,  has only been inhabited by seven families for generations (Pitu is "seven" in javanese).

The Legend of Kampung Pitu (The seven villages)

       The origin of the existence of the community living in Kampung Pitu began when a Gadung Wulung kinah tree was found by a servant of the Yogyakarta palace. Inside the tree there was an heirloom that was said to have great power. Then the servant of the Yogyakarta Palace ordered anyone who was able to care for or guard the heirloom contained in the kinah tree and would be rewarded with enough land for their descendants. 

At that time only Eyang Iro Kromo was able to carry out the order from the Palace. However, after several years later the whereabouts of the heirloom were unknown. After this incident, many powerful people came and wanted to live in the Kampung Pitu area, but only seven people were strong enough to live, the others died. And now Kampung Pitu is only occupied by 7 families, it cannot be less or more than 7 if the taboo is violated then a disaster will occur in 1 family ranging from illness to death. 

 At the location of Kampung Pitu there is a water source which according to the story is the former tlogo guyangan which was a bathing place for jaran sembrani (magical horses) which were the vehicles of angels. Every jaran sembrani who came down to bathe and set foot on the large rock next to the tlogo, the footprints of the jaran sembrani would leave marks on the rock. Now tlogo guyangan is covered by mud and local residents use it as a rice field area. The spring water source next to the tlogo is used for the daily needs of the local community and is used for irrigation of rice fields. 

Although Kampung Pitu is still considered a sacred area, on the other hand Kampung Pitu has a very amazing view, because the height of the Ancient Volcano in the east has a height of 1000 MDPL which is enjoyed at sunrise and sunset moments.
